Capital of Culture 2017 – Aarhus, world capital of happiness!

According to the World Report of Happiness, the Danes are the happiest people in the world! Being part of a great social system, trusting others unconditionally, having a fabulous work-life balance and perhaps also the proximity to the sea might be just a few reasons why they are so happy.
2Did you know that Aarhus with its 311,000 inhabitants is the second biggest city in Denmark? Located in the North East Jutland and being selected as the Capital of Culture in 2017, Aarhus could also be designated world capital of happiness, and for good reason.
Aarhus was founded in the Viking age and is about to reinvent itself by turning visitors’ attention to its beautiful harbour. Whilst their seaport has a functional background, a new trendy quarter is about to emerge, the so-called port city – Aarhus Ø.
Discover the diverse architecture of the new harbour area with its unique residential complex, “the iceberg”, located right at the water front. Spend some time in one of the many beach bars, join a beach volleyball match or become part of the urban garden project, where residents can cultivate their own fruit and vegetables.
Some people believe that the highlight of Aarhus is its recently built, modern and innovative library Dokk1, allowing Aarhus to focus again on the city’s institutions in order to create a sense of community and connection.
Dokk1 is the biggest library in Scandinavia and acts as a meeting point for young and old. Whether you want to spend some time in the coffee lounge, the events zone or family area enjoying the digital football courts, LEGO bricks and much more, you can be sure that you will enjoy the exceptional atmosphere. Also, whenever you hear a bell across the library, you know that a new child was born in Aarhus.
When visiting Aarhus, you can enjoy both the old and new city quarters. Discover the unique and quaint of tiny alleyways, the impressive dome in the so-called Latin Quarter, small cosy boutiques, larger stores, restaurants and cafes - you may not want to leave any time soon.
You won’t find a higher density of students anywhere else in Denmark, which explains the vivid nightlife and gastronomy. Whenever there’s sunshine, most people will spend their time outdoor in green parks, on one of numerous beaches or in the ancient city centre.
No other Danish town offers as many leisure options as Aarhus, combined with an urban life style. Whether you are a fan of sea kayaking, cycling, sailing or mountain biking in the hilly mountains just outside of the city; Aarhus offers something for everyone. It is also becoming more and more popular as a holiday destination, which is why NOVASOL has around 3,000 holiday homes in close proximity to Aarhus.
And if you want to become part of the cultural capital celebrations in 2017, you can join many events and activities organised by the region of Central Jutland. Their theme is “Let’s rethink – reflect & reinvent yourself!
There will be four main events taking place in 2017, a series of twelve full moon events and over 350 individual programs about the cultural capital of Europe Aarhus. Margrethe II from Denmark will be the official patroness of this exciting project.
Some of the highlights will include a spectacular open air theatre play, various cinema releases and kilometre long artworks. Have you not been to Aarhus yet? Well now is the time to visit this wonderful city, to take part in various cultural activities and to relax in a NOVASOL holiday home in or around Aarhus.
